Active Shooter Response Training

COURSE DETAILS: Cost $100, Length 2-Hours
(Choose between the Firearms-based course or the Empty-Hands course)

This is 2-hour course trains citizens in the fundamentals of surviving an active shooter / active attacker event. The first hour is a lecture portion based on the Civilian Response to Active Shooter Events (CRASE) which was developed by the Advanced Law Enforcement Rapid Response Training (ALERRT) center at Texas State. Students will be educated on the following topics:

  • History of Active Shooter / Attacker Events
  • Managing Human Response to Danger
  • Strategies to Avoid, Deny, Defend (also termed Run, Hide, Fight)
  • Best Way to Interact with First Responders
  • Role-playing Scenarios

The second hour is a practical training portion and we offer two different options:

  • Option #1: Firearms – this is taught at the gun range and geared towards students who already possess a Texas License-to-Carry. Using a handgun, the practical exercises will include:
    • Rapid Loading, Unloading and Firing
    • Shooting Under Duress
    • Getting Off the “X”
  • Option #2: Weaponless Defense – for those who do not carry a firearm, but wish to learn the empty-hand techniques which can help them survive when they encounter an armed attacker.

    • Note: For the Firearms course, you will need a total of 100 rounds of ammunition, your firearm, plus eye and ear protection. This class is for experienced shooters only. If you are inexperienced please consider taking our Intro to Handgun course to better prepare yourself.
